Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence--based approach that helps you develop psychological flexibility --- the ability to stay present, make room for difficult thoughts and emotions, and choose actions that align with your values.  Instead of struggling with inner experiences or trying to eliminate them, ACT supports you to relate to them differently so they hav less power over your life.

ACT is grounded in mindfulness, compassion, and behaviour change.  It recognises that painful thoughts, emotions, and memories are part of being human.  Freedom comes not from getting rid of them, but from learning how to respond in ways that are supportive, intentional, and aligned with you want to be.

In our work together, ACT may involve:

  • noticing thoughts and feelings with curiosity rather than judgement

  • learning skills to unhook from unhelpful thought patterns

  • developing a kinder, more spacious relationship with your inner world

  • clarifying what truly matters to you

  • choosing actions that move you towards a meaningful, values--based life

  • practising mindfulness and grounding techniques to support emotional regulation

ACT is practical, flexible, and deeply human.  It can help you shift out of struggle and into a more purposeful, connected way of living.  This modality is particularly supportive for anxiety, depression, burnout, grief, trauma, self-criticism, and times when life feels overwhelming or directionless.
